Kitchener-Waterloo (a.k.a K-W or K-Dub) is an unofficial but ubiquitous name for the metropolitan area in Ontario, Canada consisting of the twin cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. These two cities grew into each other decades ago and their shared boundary cuts through streets, backyards and houses. Kitchener was known as 'Berlin' until WWI. Cambridge, Ontario has now also grown to share a border with K-W. All three cities share the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, located approximately 100 kilometres west of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
K-W is known for its surrounding small town culture including farmers and Mennonites. Waterloo is the home of Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and is also the location of the headquarters of Research In Motion, makers of the BlackBerry device.
