• Lewis Franklin Powell, Jr. was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1972 until 1987.
• Lewis Powell (assassin), alias "Lewis Payne", was one of the conspirators hanged for taking part in the plot to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. He was the assassin that stabbed Secretary of State William H. Seward on the night that that co-conspirator John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln.
