This is a list of English words of Hungarian origin:
- Biro
- From Bíró. Named after Mr. László Bíró, inventor of the ballpoint pen.
- Coach
- From kocsi. Named after the village Kocs where this type of vehicle was first made. Kocsi means from Kocs.
- Czardas
- From csárdás. A folk dance. (Csárda means tavern.)
- Goulash
- From gulyás. A type of stew known in Hungarian as pörkölt. In Hungary, ‘gulyás’ is actually a soup dish; the meaning changed during transfer of the word.
- Hussar
- From huszár. A light cavalry soldier.
- Komondor
- A Hungarian breed of dog.
- Kuvasz
- A Hungarian breed of dog.
- Magyar
- A Hungarian breed of dog.
- Paprika
- From paprika. A vegetable and the spice made out of it.
- Puli
- A Hungarian breed of dog.
- Tokaji / Tokay
- From tokaji. From the name of the famous Hungarian wine, tokaji aszú.
- Shako or tsako
- From csákó. A stiff military hat with a high crown and plume.
- Verbunkos
- a musical style.
- Vizsla / vizla
- From vizsla. A Hungarian breed of dog.
