List of Mega Man X characters

This is a list of characters for the Mega Man X series. Unless otherwise stated, each of these characters is a Reploid. Names appear in lexicographical order. Japanese names are listed first; English names are listed second, if they differ.

Maverick Hunters

Main article: Maverick Hunters

The majority of the protagonists and supporting characters are members of the Maverick Hunters. Many of the villains were also once members. They were founded by Dr. Cain, and were taken over by a new commander after he retired. After the new commander resigned out of guilt from the Repliforce incident, Signas was selected to take the helm as the Maverick Hunter supreme commander.

CV: Rumi Kasahara (JP), Rumiko Varnes (X7 EN), Mariette Sluyter (X8 EN)

A researcher and former colleague of Gate with an IQ of 300. She is the chief-navigator and programmer for the Maverick Hunters. Her appearance is that of a blonde woman in her early-twenties. She worked for a research-group alongside Gate, whom she had a short romance with. This ended in tragedy when Gate was promptly fired for unethical and otherwise dangerous experiments and he swore revenge against them. She joined the hunters soon afterwards. She changed her armor since X8 to a more femine version, and has let her hair down until recently it had been curled into a roll. She is considered to be the counterpart of X and she shares his abilities as a hidden playable character in X8. Although she trully lacks these combat abilites. (Although it is not completly outside the realms of possibility that she actully has a weapon.) Many fans consider Alia to have affections for X, based off of her dialogue from X6, although this cannot be considered true as she acts the same way towards Zero if the player chooses to play as him; her heightened emotion throughout X6 stems from the fact she is partly responsible for the reason Gate went maverick.

CV: Minami Takayama (JP), Lenne Hardt (X7 EN), Jeffrey Watson (CM, X8 EN)

A relatively new character, he used to be a member of the Red Alert Syndicate: a group of unofficial Maverick hunters consisting mostly of bounty hunters and criminals. He leaves the group wishing to become a true Maverick Hunter. Axl has the ability to absorb the DNA data of other Reploids, since he is a New Generation Reploid prototype as mentioned in Megaman X8. This allows him to copy an enemy's power and form. Because of this, he is a target for Sigma who wishes to use Axl's stored DNA data to increase his own power. He was a pre-teen when introduced in X7, but has grown into his mid-teens since Command Mission. There is an X-shaped scar in the center of his face, which he does not get repaired for reasons unknown. Although Axl has grown since X7, he is still somewhat immature and a constant pain in the neck for X and Zero. He is stated in Command Mission a S(A) rank hunter.

CV: Wataru Takagi

A mechanic for the Maverick Hunters who appeared in a support role in X5 and X6. He constructed power-up parts (or "modules") for X and Zero and reinforced the Enigma Cannon and Space Shuttle with the parts they gathered from the Mavericks. During the Nightmare outbreak, Douglas helped X and Zero by refining power-up parts for them. Although he is still employed by the maverick hunters, he has not appeared ingame for awhile. He is a somewhat eccentric character who prefers to look on the lighter side of things. He can fix about anything.

CV: Tadashi Miyazawa (JP)

A human archaeologist who discovered X in a forgotten capsule (sometime around the date 2114 AD). Upon finding X, he copied X's plans to create many hundreds of X replications (Reploids). However, he wasn't able to replicate X's system exactly the same and made alternate parts for his designs. He also did not have their systems scanned for flaws as X himself did. This lack of scanning was thought to be the source of the Maverick condition for the first three games. In addition, Cain is the human leader of the Maverick Hunters for the first four games. Cain was responsible for the creation of Dr. Doppler, who created the city known as "Doppler Town" for humans and Reploids to co-exist in (X3), but later went Maverick, and then the "Repliforce," which also ended in corruption at the hands of Sigma (X4). His whereabouts are currently unknown as he has not appeared since X3 and was last mentioned in X4.

  • Garuma/Gamma

Leader of an unknown Maverick Hunter unit. His unit was dispatched sometime before the Maverick Wars to terminate a red maverick, which turned out to be Zero. Gamma and his entire unit were destroyed by Zero before Sigma came with reinforcements, so they were only mentioned by Sigma without any appearance.

A navigator introduced in X8. She is an expert in analyzing enemy data and finding boss weaknesses. She is most useful in helping players defeat difficult enemies. She is considered to be the counterpart of Zero and is shown to have an apparent crush on him. Although Zero asked her to be his navigator, it is unknown if he returns the emotion. Considering the fate of the person he had last fallen in love with (Iris), it is unlikely Zero will show interest in any girl again. She shares his abilities as a hidden playable character in X8. Although she trully lacks these combat abilites.

  • Midi/Middy

Middy was a child prodigy along with his twin Techno, a genius computer scientist and programmer. Unlike his brother, he was shy and timid, and thus Techno was recognized more for his achievements. This unfortunately lead to Techno being captured and brainwashed by Geemel and Zain. After the Hunter's computer had been hacked, Middy was called to help transfer X into the computer and put a stop to the mavericks. Although Middy assisted to the best of his abilities, he held back the knowledge that his brother was involved. Middy and Techno had an unusual psychic-link due to them being born as twin Reploids, an unusual circumstance. Once Techno died, Middy's programming became unstable and broke apart. He died shortly afterwards. It's unknown if he got repaired.

CV: Haruna Mima (JP), Chris Simms (EN)

A navigator introduced in X8. She is an expert at analyzing map data and finding new routes through stages. She is most helpful in finding hidden passages and routes for the player. She is incredibly useful for finding Dr. Light capsules. She is considered to be the counterpart of Axl and shares his abilities as a hidden playable character in X8. Although she trully lacks these combat abilites. She is considered Cinnamon's rival for Axl's love among fans of the series. It is unknown if Pallete is either a child or a short adult.

CV: Kentarou Itou (X4 JP), Shoutarou Morikubo (X5-7 JP), Takahiro Sakurai (CM, X8 JP), Peter Von Gomm (X7 EN), Mark Gatha (CM, X8 EN)

One of the Highest ranked officers of the Maverick Hunters and past leader of the 17th Unit of the Maverick Hunters. The hero of the series, he was created by Dr. Light as the first robot with the ability to "think" and act on its own. For some reason, he refuses to remove his helmet if he can help it. Most of the Maverick Hunters simply call him X, which is fine by him considering he dislikes being referred to as Megaman X. This is due to the fact that unlike the original Megaman, he has so far been unable to prevent mass amounts of lives from being lost. He joined the Maverick Hunters before Sigma went Maverick. He has a strong disliking for violence and wishes he did not have to resort to it. His decision whether or not to fight seems to fluctuate. In X7, he adamantly refuses to fight until certain game requirements are met, however in X8, he seems to shrug off his convictions and jumps right into the fray with Zero and Axl. X seems to have a disliking for Axl and does not want him to be a Hunter, partially due to his origin and the fact he is still considerably young. In the manga, he has a relationship with a female pirate named Martei, although it is a rather violent one. In X1, he joined as a member of the 17th Elite Unit of the Maverick Hunters which was led by Sigma who later goes Maverick. Afterwards, X replaced Sigma's position as a leader, until X7 where X (temporarily) retired from the battling frontline, to some "more peaceful" work. However, since X7, X is stated "originally the leader of the 17th Elite Unit" with him still being a Hunter.

  • Signas
CV: Hirotaka Suzuoki (JP), Robert Belgrade (X7 EN), Roger Rhodes (X8 EN)

Signas is the newest leader and commander of the Maverick Hunters, introduced in X5. He was originally a private investigator before being assigned to the maverick hunters. Signas commands every mission executed by the Hunters, and he also often plans out major operations, overseeing them carefully. Very loyal to humans and Reploids, Signas will stop at nothing to ensure that all Mavericks are eliminated, as he has already proven to be a worthy leader and valuable Hunter. His outward appearance is similar to that of Colonel, although that is nothing more than mere coincidence. It is hinted in some mangas that he has a cigarrette-addiction. In many sprite comics (most notably the Bob and George subcomic, Plague's Misadventures) Signas is shown to be a manipulative beaurocrat.

CV: Ryoutarou Okiayu (JP), Wayne Dozier (X4 EN), Lucas Gilbertson (CM, X8 EN)

Past leader of the Stealth 0th Unit of the Maverick Hunters, he is now one of the highest ranked officers in the Maverick Hunters. X's friend, partner, mentor, teacher and somewhat brother character. Most evidence seems to suggest that he is the last creation of Dr. Wily. Originally, Zero was a Maverick with killing intent. Zero killed many innocents lives until he fought his last battle against Sigma as a Maverick. Sigma won this battle against him and then brought Zero to Dr. Cain to be converted to be a Maverick Hunter. Dr. Cain inserted a "Control Chip" within Zero's body. This chip would keep Zero's strength in check. It seems that Dr. Cain or Dr. Wily somehow sealed Zero's memories that have been flowing back during later installments of the X series. It seems that Zero was the original source of the Maverick Virus and that it transferred to Sigma after his victory. Because Zero's gem on his forehead glowed with a "W" this should also mean that Dr. Wily was the creator of the Virus as well as the believed creator of Zero himself. Later, the Virus evolved within Sigma's body. He sacrificed himself to save X in the first rebellion, but was later ressurected with a new body and new armor by the X-hunters, who used him to fight for them. Unlike X, he did not initially dislike Axl, although he has come to realize he is an annoyance. Unlike X, Zero has no qualms about letting Axl join the Maverick Hunters (See Zero's profile). After Iris' death in X4, he became socially cold, only putting in a word when he deems it necessary. In the manga, his helmet is constantly forcefully removed by whomever he is fighting, usually shot or blasted off.

Mavericks

CV: Mugihito (X8 JP), Hiroshi Shimozaki (IHX JP)

Former member of the Elite 17th unit of the Maverick Hunters. He was known for being extremely violent and was confined at one point. During the first major Maverick revolt, Sigma released him, and he became Sigma's right hand man. It is not known if Vile was infected by the Maverick Virus, as his violent nature and desire to destroy X and Zero seems to outweigh his desire to kill humans. Vile was destroyed by X and Zero in the first game and brought back by Doppler in X3 where he was destroyed a second time by X. At this point, Vile MK II had become utterly insane, and even brought down an entire factory in some hope X would be trapped inside. After his second defeat, his last words would be that he would haunt X forever.

Despite a long lapse in appearances, he made good this threat when he was brought back yet again in X8 and is destroyed by X, Zero, and Axl. Due to the fact that he did not change forms to a New Generation Reploid at his death, it appears that the Vile V (meaning penta- 5) of X8 is the original and is thus put in second place for the most deaths/resurrections in the series, with Sigma having the most by far and with Zero as a close third. Vile also appears in the game Megaman Xtreme, however, this appearance is generally disregarded as a proper appearance by fans, as this version of Vile is just a computer program using Vile's appearance, rather than Vile himself. In the English version of the game, he is also mis-named as VAVA, his Japanese name.

Vile is an expert Ride-armor pilot. He was infamous for fighting in his Ride Armor, and in the first Mega Man X game, he easily overpowers X using it, and it takes a sacrifice by Zero in order to destroy it. By the third game, however, X had grown in power considerably, and was able to dispatch Vile's Ride Armor without much difficulty. Even the computer program mimicking him in Xtreme showed Vile inside a Ride Armor. This program was considerably weaker than previous armors, and fell very quickly. By X8, Vile no longer saw the Ride Armor as much of an advantage, and for most battles, fought without. Eventually, he returns to his old tactics and uses a modified ride armor against the hunters. Vile's upgrades allowed him to control the ride-armor telepathically, so he choose not to sit in it while piloting it. In an ironic twist, if the player is playing hard mode on X8, it is Vile who "sacrifices" himself, causing one of the players to be MIA for the remainder of the stage. It is believed that Vile jumped out of the armor before it blew up. It's unknown what his fate truly was in X8.

While his appearance changes each time he is revived, Vile's design has fundamentally remained the same. He wears a Boba Fett-esque helmet and always has a laser-cannon mounted on his right shoulder. As of his second incarnation, he also mounted a missile launcher on his left shoulder. His second incarnation also had a shield, but while he never used it in the games, he used it once in the manga. His third incarnation also has mind-linked vernier jets installed in his feet. Choosing to forego his "humanity", he had most of the bio-organics inside his body removed in order to house concealed weapons inside of his limbs such as bombs or napalm launchers. Vile's helmet has a single monoeye installed in it similar to Gundam's Zaku series. Underneath the helmet, he has heterochromia; his right eye is red, while his left eye color usually appears as either blue or green. As of X8, it is safe to assume he is mentally-insane.

In the Mega Man X remake, Maverick Hunter X, Vile is a unlockable player character whom fights against Sigma with the intent to "change the world his way". His final boss in this game is a battle with a tag-teaming X and Zero. After completing Vile's story mode he kicks X in the head until he stops moving and is about to completely destroy him, but Zero grabs Vile's leg as a distraction and tells X to fire, which he barely does. Presumeably, the Charge Shot goes through Vile's body and hits Zero as well, killing him like the original and X's story. This could be a result of X's lesson to never "hesitate to pull the trigger". Vile wakes up to find the two hunters missing and Sigma is by him. Sigma asks him what kind of world he was envisioning and Vile laughs, saying that he wasn't sure what he planned to do. Sigma leaves him, ordering an unknown communicator to "retrieve Vile". Vile then dies, saying "I don't care what happens to this world... by defeating X I validated my OWN exeistence... and thats all that matters to me now... My name... is Vile... I... am... I..." It is believed Vile's actions in Maverick Hunter are now canon, however the exact events of Vile Mode may not be. In other words he has mainly a wild card who mainly went after both Mavericks and Hunters and probably killed some of Sigma's generals himself.

  • Double
CV: Yasunori Matsumoto (JP)

A short, obese Reploid who appears at the beginning of X4 and says that he is assigned to be X's assistant. He appears to be a kind, but a little bumbling Reploid who genuinely admires X, and appears to be concerned about X's safety. However, Double is revealed during the final levels to be a spy for Sigma, at which point he transforms into his second form, a much slimmer and more demonic version, with purple arm-blades, and confronts X. This goes with the Japanese love of puns, as Double could also have been translated as "Devil", but it would be most possibly indicating his "double identity". He has been called "Jello Man" due to the gelatinous appearance of his limbs, and perhaps his liquid metal nature. He reveals the mild-mannered Double to be a farce and shows himself to be truly violent, he taunts X as to how he wants to destroy him. When X finally finishes him off, Double's final words are that he would see X in Hell.

  • Mac

Hunter Base repair Reploid gone Maverick during the Doppler Incident. Tried to capture X for Dr. Doppler, but was destroyed by Zero.

CV: Mugihito (JP), Walter Roberts (X7 EN), Dave Petit (X8 EN)
Original leader of the Maverick Hunters. Designed by Cain to be the perfect Reploid, Sigma was implemented with devices to protect him from turning Maverick. These devices failed and Sigma ended up as the leader of the Mavericks. Later it is discovered that Sigma's turning Maverick is due to his defeating Zero, upon which the virus switched carriers from Zero to Sigma.
Over time the Maverick Virus has apparently fused with his mind, making the virus and Sigma the same entity. This is most likely how Sigma keeps surviving his defeats at the end of each game. Sigma has a habit of fighting first in his normal body, which the player must destroy, and then switching over to a much more powerful body that is hidden in the background. As such "pulling a Sigma" is a sometimes used as video game jargon to describe someone who is defeated and then comes back a moment later fully healed and more powerful then they were before through some means.
The ending of Mega man X8: Paradise Lost seems to indicate that Sigma has finally been defeated for good and will not return.
CV: Shoutarou Morikubo

A Reploid mercenary with S(A) hunter rank power hired by Sigma to help spread the Sigma Virus, Dynamo often appears just to slow things down for the Hunters. He isn't evil however, and will protest or turn down a job when he knows what he's doing is wrong. He only took the job to spread the virus in X5 because he knew X and Zero would ultimately save the planet. He advised X and Zero to mellow out after fighting them or else the stress will kill them. However, he tried to gather nightmare souls in X6 to increase his own strength, and as a result, most see him as a villain. A retractable red visor hangs from his helmet over his eyes and wears red mini-glasses on the end of his nose when he isn't wearing a helmet. He wields a double-bladed purple beam saber and uses a Desperado-buster. His personality is generally playful, and his dialogue show this, an example being in X5 when he asks if X and Zero can "come out to play" when he attacks the Maverick Hunters base out of boredom. He has not appeared since X6, and there are no signs he will be brought back. It is hinted in manga by several artists that he has affections for or has an existing relationship with Alia after saving her life.

  • Geemel
Geemel was a thrill-seeker who, along with his partner Zain and the help of Techno, hacked the Maverick Hunter's main computer, which caused chaos and anarchy for the rest of the world as the hunters were unable to detect, locate and halt maverick attacks and uprisings. He is greatly skilled with shuriken and other ninjitsu abilities. He was destroyed in digial form while fighting X, and his mind was fried as a result. He spoke in an Engrish accent. Despite the fact that most mavericks are self-serving Geemel and Zain appeared to have a genuine freindship. (Which can be seen from Geemel's reaction when X killed Zain.)
  • Zain
Zain was the best friend and partner of Geemel, who had hacked into the Maverick hunter's main computer. He wore gold armor and fought with a giant zweihander. He was destroyed in digital form by X which resulted in his brain being destroyed in the real world.
  • Techno
Techno was a child prodigy along with his brother Midi, a genius computer scientist and programmer. He was brainwashed by Geemel and Zain into helping them hack the main computer at the Maverick Hunter HQ and compromise both their security and records. Unfortunately, to hack such a strong program, Techno was forced to connect his brain directly to his control panel, and when X destroyed it, it ended up killing Techno as well. Just before his death, he recovered his memories and managed to apologize to his brother for what he had done.
CV: Keiji Fujiwara
A Reploid scientist who is a friend of Alia. It is hinted that his relationship with her had extended to the point of lovers up until the point where he broke himself off from the research group. He has created several other Reploids, all of which were unequaled in their fields. However, his colleages, being unable to properly analyze Gate's specialized Reploids, grew fearful of his skill and plotted to do away with his creations. This led to all of his Reploids being terminated, usually with Gate's colleages framing them as Mavericks or sabotaging their systems. Those that survived committed suicide out of guilt. Highly angered from this, Gate leaves his research lab. In the beginning of X6, Gate goes to explore a ruin. Inside, he finds a piece of Zero. Zero's virus-infected DNA caused him to go insane, though also gave him incredible power and allowed him to resurrect his creations. Gate was the main villain in Mega Man X6, and was defeated by X and Zero. Shortly after his defeat, however, Gate reactivated a half-completed (and half-witted) Sigma as a last resort, getting himself blasted by him in the process. His (presumably) dead body was taken back to Alia afterwards. What became of his body remains unknown. Gate is portrayed as openly-gay by most fan-artists, although that seems to be simply for humor.
  • High Max
CV: Norio Wakamoto
A powerful Reploid created by Gate. Gate used Zero's DNA to create the perfect fighting Reploid, thus creating High Max. High Max is one of the bosses you face against in Mega Man X6. He floats around with jets on his feet. He also is immune to normal attacks (although it's possible to weaken him enough to actually damage him for a few seconds). Not much else is known about him, except that he is kind of emotionless and an order-follower, and was supposed to be the leader of the Zero Nightmare Phenomenon Investigators. He did not serve serve any purpose other than to add a mid-boss to the game. He is also very egotistical and cannot believe it when X (or Zero) defeats him. This only occurs when the boss battle in the blue warp is him as he has no dialog upon his defeat in Sigma Stage 2.
  • Isoc
CV: Takeshi Aono
Isoc is a politician who works with High Max and Gate to solve the mystery of Nightmare Zero in Mega Man X6. In reality, Isoc is only interested in one thing - the body of Zero. This has led to speculation that Isoc is really Dr. Wily, the archnemesis of Mega Man X's prototype in the Mega Man Classic series, who has somehow found a way to "possess" robotic shells. This speculation is enhanced by the fact that Isoc somehow knows the internal systems of Zero (Dr. Wily was the designer of Zero) and that Isoc's body is found lying vacant by the player late in the game. Therefore, Isoc is somehow considered the second incarnation of Dr. Wily after Serges.
Berkana was a Reploid female scientist dabbling in the concept of DNA souls at the Laguz Island research facility. However, her research was eventually deemed unethical after laws against DNA-resurrection were passed, and much to her displeasure, her research was immediately halted by the authorities. Sigma took advantage of her anger and convinced her to assist him in his plan to ressurrect his deceased soldiers by extracting the DNA souls of Reploids and using them to fuel the zombie Mavericks, as well as strengthen living ones to ghastly levels. Desperate to continue her research, Berkana immediately agreed and Sigma modified her into a battle Reploid. She assumed the guise of a witch and became the commander of Sigma's revived army, continuing to extract the DNA souls of Reploids all over the planet. Soon after coming into power, her personality became coy and arrogantly playful. Once X and Zero were sent to halt her activities, she quickly became mentally and sexually attracted to X and decided to offer him the chance to join her. X declined and continued to fight her forces. Once the majority of her army had been destroyed, Berkana decided to fight X personally, only to easily defeated. Her body was destroyed and Sigma found it best to ignore ressurecting her when given the opportunity. She has been recorded as having the largest bust-size out of all the females introduced in the Megaman X series so far.
Although Gareth's early origins were unknown, he worked as Berkana's righthand-man during her time as a Soul-Eraser. He wore armor resembling a medival knight, and fought like one as well using a dragoon fighting style. Gareth was dedicated to both Berkana and his mission, believing he was only erasing the souls of "evil" Reploids. He was blind to the truth however, and ultimately died for it. He held a deep hatred for X after noticing Berkana's interest in him and aimed to destroy him, although Zero managed to keep him at bay and killed him.
CV: Junko Noda (JP), Elinor Holt (EN)
Lumine is the same breed of Reploid as Axl in that his powers and abilities are centered around his chameleon chip. However, he refers to Axl as being only a prototype. Lumine calls all reploids with copy chips "New Generation" Reploids. It is revealed that all Reploids with working chips are immune to viruses of all kinds and thus cannot become Maverick. However, he later says that since the copy chips are created by combining the DNA of nearly all reploids in existence, including Sigma, all New Generation Reploids can go Maverick at will. He is the director of the Jakob Project (the name for the creation of a giant space elevator used to transport humans to the moon) and the leader of all the New Generation Reploids. He is the villain of X8 and marks the first time in the series where the final boss of the game is not Sigma.
After a first boss fight against Sigma, Lumine reveals himself to be the true villain of the game and finishes Sigma off himself (though it is still uncertain if Sigma is merely damaged or truly dead). At first, Lumine's abilities appear to be centered solely around the strongest abilities of the bosses of the game. However, after being beaten he takes on a second form that bears a striking resemblance to Copy X of the Zero series. This leads to the belief that the Copy X of the Zero series is in fact some form of New Generation Reploid with a copy chip.
After being defeated a second time, Lumine falls to the ground. Axl approaches him only to be attacked and damaged by a seemingly organic tentacle that bursts from Lumine. Lumine is then totally destroyed by the combined attacks of X and Zero. At the end of the game the player can see that Axl, being carried home in X's arms, is having nightmares and a close up of the core gem on his forehead shows that a part of Lumine has apparently infected him. This and the fact that the player, by getting all of Axl's abilities, may unlock a new more powerful version of Axl which features evil yellow eyes along with armor and hair that match the color of Lumines seems to foreshadow the next episode of the X series.
CV: Akio Ohtsuka (JP), Barry Gjerde(EN)
The scythe-wielding leader of the Red Alert Syndicate. He is a paternal figure to Axl but does not approve of his leaving the syndicate. Red appears to be a true Maverick Hunter at heart. However, he shows that he is more accepting than the usual Hunters since he allows criminals and bounty hunters to join Red Alert. This has made his organization disreputable and more or less at ends with Hunters.
Sigma manipulates Red all through X7 with promises of increased power for the syndicate Reploids and help in recovering Axl. In reality, Sigma wants Axl to increase his own power (The depths of this plan are revealed in X8). Red finds this out much too late to prevent Sigma from turning the other Red Alert members Maverick in "exchange" for the power upgrades. Red is forced to go along with Sigma's plans or risk his subordinates being harmed. He confronts Zero, X, and Axl and is heavily damaged in the battle. He later sacrifices himself to save Axl from Sigma.

X-Hunters

The X-Hunters (Counter Hunters in Japan) appear in Mega Man X2. Their names are derived from French terms for personality traits.They endlessly hunt X.

  • Agile
Member of the X Hunters. Agile means, unsurprisingly, agile. He is a purple armored swordsman. There is some speculation that it is he who gave Zero his beam saber. He makes a small Cameo in Mega Man Zero 2 where his spirit is used by a boss as an attack.
  • Sagesse / Serges
Leader of the X Hunters. Sagesse means wise, cognate with English sage. He appears to be a small old man. His fighting techniques seem to focus mostly on defense and the use of advanced weapons showing that, while intelligent, he is not a battle machine. He is also the one rebuilding Zero, adding armor and perhaps even the Z Saber. His knowledge and acquaintance towards Zero lead to supposition of Serges being Dr. Wily's first incarnation, although there have been no official word by Capcom on this. Serges (or at least, a computer program resembling Serges) made a Cameo appearance as a non-speaking boss in Mega Man Xtreme.
  • Violen
Member of the X Hunters. Violent (the t is silent) means violent. Takes the form of a giant gorilla and fights using a ball and chain. He is incredibly powerful but apparently lacking in brains, despite his use of big words.

Nightmare Police

The Nightmare Police protected Doppeltown from the Hunters in Mega Man X3.

A "Reploid scientist", Doppler became corrupted with the Sigma Virus and eventually became a Maverick. Created a partially successful anti-program against the Maverick Virus. He was a great-friend of Dr. Cain, who was emotionally tortured throughout the whole incident due to the betrayal.
  • Mandarilla BB / Byte
Along with Bit, a member of the Nightmare Police working under Dr. Doppler. He is enormous, calm, and physically powerful. Destroyed in the Doppler Town Incident. In the manga, Byte was able to disintegrate himself into thousands of tiny wormlike robots and able to reform just about everywhere. After Martei had given X his armor upgrades, he obliterated most of his and Bit's bodies, where they reformed into "Godkarmachine O Inary" (or "G-Machine").
  • Vajurilla FF / Bit
Along with Byte, one of the Nightmare Police working under Dr. Doppler. He is fast, arrogant, and carries a large shield-like device. Destroyed in the Dopplertown Incident. Repliforce

Main article: Repliforce

Repliforce was a paramilitary organization founded to supplement the Maverick Hunters. Repliforce and its members appear mostly in Mega Man X4, but the organization is also mentioned as early as Mega Man Xtreme 2 and as late as Mega Man Zero.

CV: Jin Yamanoi (JP)
Youngest high ranking officer in the Repliforce. He had a friendship/rivalry with Zero. When the Repliforce War started, he actively fought against X and Zero. Eventually he was destroyed by either X or Zero (depending on which character the player chose, although cannonically, it was Zero). Colonel was originally designed as a perfect fighting Reploid and compassionate peacemaker in one, but when scientists could not reconcile both sides, they made him as the fighter and his sister Iris as his counterpart. Colonel recognized his sister's fondness for Zero, and did everything he could to prevent it from growing both out of brotherly-protection and Zero's reputation as a dangerous Reploid. He makes a small Cameo in Mega Man Zero 2 where his "spirit" is used by a boss as an attack.
  • General
CV: Ryuzaburo Ohtomo (JP)
Leader of the Repliforce. When Sky Lagoon was destroyed, the Maverick Hunters accused the Repliforce of being Mavericks. Due to military pride, Repliforce as a whole refused to lay down arms and submit to questioning after the accusation, which was seen as suspicious. General, insulted by this, decided to create a "Reploid nation" on the Final Weapon space station, and while he in an announcement said that the movement had nothing to do with rebellion or insurrection towards humans, the overall situation seemed to further "prove" that Repliforce had gone Maverick. These events, which, as it turned out, were instigated by Sigma, started the Repliforce War. General was defeated by Mega Man X and Zero, but not killed. When he saw that the Final Weapon had been set up to destroy the Earth, he sacrificed himself to stop it.
CV: Yuko Mizutani (JP) Michelle Gazepis (EN)
Colonel's sister Reploid and member of the Repliforce. Iris was originally designed as a perfect fighting reploid and compassionate peacemaker in one, but when scientists could not reconcile both sides, they made her as the peacemaker and her brother Colonel as her counterpart. She has strong feelings for Zero, supports him as a navigator during the Soul Eraser incident in Mega Man Xtreme 2, and worked as his assistant through most of the Repliforce incident of Mega Man X4. She naturally did not agree with the war declared by General and tried to stay out of the war. With the death of her brother Colonel at the hands of Zero, she became confused, and her programming fragmented as a result of her other half being destroyed. This resulted in her going partially insane and fighting against Zero, who ended up destroying her. She died in his arms saying that she just wanted to live in peace with him. This incident seems to have had an impact on Zero. In the end events of X5, Zero sees a memory of Iris while he is dying and asks for her forgiveness. This seems to indicate it is more likly Zero's story occurred in X4. It has been a constant wish of many fans of the games that Iris be brought back into the series, so far there has been no action taken. Between X4 and Xtreme 2, her eye color was changed from blue to green, to blue again in newer art.

Command Mission characters

Mega Man X: Command Mission seems to take place outside of the traditional X-series/Zero series chronology, so all Command Mission characters are listed separately.

A colonel of the Federation army, charged with resolving the conflict in Giga City. As a last resort to launching an indiscriminate attack, Redips dispatched a small team of Maverick Hunters -- X, Zero, and a special-forces Reploid named Shadow -- to investigate an energy signal in the Lagrano Ruins area of Giga City. Redips made sporadic contact with X over the course of the conflict, ending in a personal appearance immediately after the destruction of Epsilon. He accepted the Supra-Force Metal that X, Zero, and Axl found in Epsilon's remains, congratulated them, and arranged for an escort out of Giga City for them all. The escort fleet arrived and opened fire on the waiting Maverick Hunters, destroying Chief R in a hail of bullets and driving X and company into hiding. Redips soon appeared on television, declaring that X was a traitor and proclaiming peace for "all Reploids like us." The small group of Maverick Hunters infiltrated the Far Eastern HQ and confront Redips, who after a brief fight revealed that he was Spider, for how long has yet to be determined. (Redips is "Spider" spelled backwards). He had to have destroyed the real Spider (assuming that was his real name) at some point to attain his DNA for transformation. Redips had the same shape-changing ability as Axl (increased exponentially by Supra-Force Metal), so altering his body and voice back and forth between Redips and Spider during the conflict was no problem for him. He escaped to the top of the orbital tower Babel and infused his body with two enormous chunks of Supra-Force Metal, transforming himself into a mechanical monstrosity which ultimately proved less invincible than he had hoped against X and his friends. With his power gone, Redips assumed his original form and lay dying. When X asked why he became Maverick, he spat back: "Maverick? You seem more Maverick to me, with all your stubborn nonsense about friendship and your unwillingness to evolve. [...] Stay in our place, be friendly to all, decade after decade, indefinitely... Is this all Reploids will ever be? Some day, you'll see... we'll... change the world..."

  • Shadow

A Reploid with an expertise in Giga City, sent with X and Zero to stop the Rebellion Army. He met with Epsilon earlier than X and Zero did, who perverted his mind with motions of power and strength. Shadow turned traitor almost immediately, shooting Zero off the roof of the Lagrano Ruins. He later appeared in an underground factory, powered significantly by the new Supra-Force Metal. X and Zero soundly defeated him, but he still had enough strength left make a last-ditch attack effort before Redips as Spider killed him.

Rebellion

Led by Epsilon, these Reploids seek independence; they are the target of the Hunter activity.

  • Wild Jango

A bobcat-like Reploid with lightning powers. He takes over Central Tower and locked up Chief R. After hearing X presence at the tower, Jango hires Spider to eliminate X. But after Spider had a change of heart, he order his preon soldiers to destroy both X and Spider and activated a self-destruct mechanism in the command center. Jango's plans were spoiled and was later destroyed by X and Spider.

  • Silver Horn

A pompous triceratops-like tank Reploid with water/ice abilities. He's the head of the Rebellion's P.O.W. camp, Tianna Camp. He forces Nana to serve him in order to protect the lives of the prisoners. He also nearly kills the "true" Steel Massimo when he refuses to join the rebellion Army. But as he learned Nana helped X, Spider, and Steel Massimo around the camp, he joyfully punished her in front of X and his friends and insulted the real Steel Massimo. This enraged Steel Massimo, X, and Spider enough to drive them to defeat him.

  • Dr. Psyche/Mad Nautilus

The Rebellion Army's top scientist. He used to be a normal human-type reploid until the force metal transformed him into a more mechanical reploid. He tried to get Professor Gaudile to join the Rebellion Army and take control of the Force Metal Generator, which is inside Cinnamon's body. As he learned Marino stole Cinnamon, he caught up with them, injured Marino and stole Cinnamon. But X, Marino, and the others caught up with Psyche and fought him. In the middle of the battle, Dr. Psyche's head ejected into the air and attached itself to a huge nautilus body. This massive machine had wicked defenses and focused on lowering ability scores, but was destroyed by X and his ever-expanding crew. Dr. Psyche appears again later, with an abominably high evasion score that makes him more difficult that the original.

  • Mach Jentra

A lightly armored aerial Reploid with fire-elemental abilities. Mach Jentra appears to be a half-swallow/half-man being in a tux and with cane with a rather haughty attitude, and prone to laugh hysterically. He's in charge of Ulfat Factory, producing vast armies of preon soldiers with his creation, Duboar. Zero fought him first but Mach Jentra overpowered him. Before Mach Jentra finished Zero, X and Axl saved him and Mach Jentra fled into the room where Duboar was kept. X and the others caught up with him, fought him, and he was destroyed. However, with the destruction of Jentra, Duboar went berserk and began churning out Preons like mad, including some rather powerful Mongrel preons made from the parts of several different Preons. These Mongrel preons are not seem again after the fight with Duboar.

  • Incentas

A giant Reploid who is a master of fire, ice, and lightning. He's in charge of a mining facility. He lures X and his friends into a trap and battles with them. Incentas was overpowered by X and his friends and activated a self-destruct mechanism in the mine. Locking X and the others in the room, Incentas tries to escape, but Spider pushes him into the room entrance and was destroyed when Spider self-destructs himself.

  • Borock/Botos

One of Epsilon's Rebellion Army Cadres, a rotund flying Reploid with a Southern accent, and a huge coward. Botos fights by conjuring duplicates of himself...then running away. Unless he is putting on an act, he decides to flee rather than fight. Epsilon entrusted him with a piece of Supra-Force Metal and the operation of a Rebellion jamming station, but X and company defeated him and he escaped to the Melda Ore Plant. There, the Rebellion planned to launch a missile with a Supra-Force Metal warhead into the atmosphere, instantly giving tremendous uncontrollable power to practically all Reploids in the northern hemisphere. Driven by greed and jealousy, Botos moved to claim the warhead's power for his own personal use, going so far as to rip the necessary key from his fellow cadre Ferham's body. Just before he could lay his hands on the Supra-Force Metal, however, Spider appeared from the shadows and destroyed him to claim the metal himself.

  • Epsilon

Epsilon is an extremely powerful Reploid built on the island of Giga City to test the limits of Reploid engineering while combining Force Metal into the design process. He is somewhat unable to control the overflowing energy that festers inside of him due to the experiments, and requires energy-dampeners to prevent himself from meltdown. He grew to become the leader of the Rebellion (or Liberion) Army, a faction of Reploids dedicated to "the ideal" of Reploid independence. Unlike Repliforce, however, the Rebellion Army's methods centered around using Force Metal to heighten Reploid abilities and evolve of their own will, free of imposed rule. The Federation declared Epsilon and his organization as Maverick, but after X, Zero, Axl, and their friends in Giga City destroyed him and learned the truth of Colonel Redips's deception, the Federation posthumously removed his Maverick designation. Epsilon is also recorded as the first reploid modeled after an African-American to appear in the X games.

  • Ferham

Ferham is the only female among the Rebellion Army Cadres. She is red, pink, and black with single-piece wings and a beam whip. Her speech and weapon style seem to mimic the concept of dominatrix. She failed to destroy X and company in the Onovan Desert, and again failed in the missile room of the Melda Ore Plant. The great height from which she fell in defeat left enough time for Botos to approach her and rip from her body the key he needed to open the missile's Supra-Force Metal warhead. She explained the situation to X when he finally found her, and thereafter disappeared. Through unknown circumstances, she found her way to the site of the final battle with Redips on the orbital tower Babel and tore away the Supra-Force Metal that gave Redips his regenerative powers, giving X, Zero, and Axl the chance to destroy him. As the tower began to collapse, Ferham apologized for all that happened and promised to take the chunk of metal "to a place so far away, no one will ever find it." She promptly jumped off the tower into space, destroying the metal with the explosion of her own body once the tower fell to Earth. Her final words seemed to indicate she craved for Scarface's company.

  • Scarface

The highest-ranking Rebellion Army Cadre aside from Epsilon himself, a Reploid with a scarred mask, gold armor, double-bladed beam lance and large mane of light-blue hair. It is hinted that his disfigured face was caused by an error during the force metal treatment. His modification pod in Lagrano Ruins gives him the designation "Knight-type", appropriate for his honorable and unwavering devotion to the Rebellion. His first direct action came with a surprise attack on Giga City's Sky Tower, which Scarface himself described as an even payback for the damage the Resistance had done to the Rebellion. His last act was to defend Epsilon against X and company, beseeching his commander to let him demonstrate the depth of his faith. Scarface was an honorable warrior who fought without subterfuge or dirty tricks. X's encounter with Scarface was one of the first times he questioned just how evil the rebellion could be.

Resistance

These Reploids defend Giga City from the Rebellion.

  • Aile
A disabled Reploid confined to a hovering-unit. He rips a door ID from his own body and gives it to X for safe passage through the Rebellion-seized Sky Tower, then self-destructs to stop a group of mechaniloids from pursuing X. Little is known about him other than that he considers Chief R a father figure and his physical condition came from a mistake Spider made when the two were friends. The injuries sustained from the event destroyed his body from the waist down and ruined his vocal system, forcing him to speak via a speaker installed in his hover-unit.
  • Chief R
The kindly leader of the Resistance, an anti-Rebellion Army group in Giga City. He was rescued from the Rebellion early in the conflict by X, and provided X and his team leadership and direction until the end. He was among the farewell party for X, Zero, and Axl when Colonel Redips's escort group arrived. He stood out in the landing pad and waved to the lead ship -- which suddenly took aim and ventilated him with massive sustained firepower. They were the opening shots of what proved to be the final conflict. Chief R died shortly afterwards.
  • Cinnamon Gaudile

CV: Caitlynne Medrek (EN)

A youthful nurse Reploid who proved invaluable to the Resistance in the Giga City conflict. She is just barely younger than Axl, although she was constructed at that age to appear inconspicuous. In her body is a force metal generator, a device that can refine different types of force metal into a single piece of greater strength. What sort of force metal the generator creates depends on two factors; Cinnamon's knowledge of force metal types and her general mood. In addition, the generator can release energy to heal Reploids at will, although this takes an immense amount of energy out of Cinnamon's stamina. Dr. Gaudile fitted the generator into her so as to keep it safe from being used as a tool of war, but the effort proved futile when the Rebellion captured her. X and his team, along with a thief named Marino who had hoped to steal the generator for herself, rescued Cinnamon and made her part of the team. Her insistence also influenced Dr. Gaudile to help the Resistance. Though she certainly seems harmless with her childish mannerisms and nurse outfit (which becomes a maid outfit in her powered-up form), Cinnamon is one of the strongest members of the Resistance. Her personality is cute and spunky, and she usually just seems to be having fun. The force metal generator negates her normal bodily functions such as growth or being able to remove her breast and back armor casually, although this seems to have little to no effect on her.
  • Dr. Gaudile
A brilliant yet reclusive Force Metal researcher with the somewhat comical appearance of a stout Reploid platypus. He developed the force metal generator in Cinnamon's body and quickly became one of the Resistance's most important members outside of the battlefield. He serves as Cinnamon's father figure and as such was the first and only person she had ever known up until she met Marino. He apparently has not done a very good job of raising her considering Cinnamon is oblivious to concepts such as metaphors, sarcasm and the outside world, although he values his "daughter" more than anything else and will do anything to protect her. He also seems to dissaprove of Axl hanging around her, or his experiments for that matter.
  • Marino
A professional Reploid thief, a stealthy ninja-like female. Some gamers consider her a little odd, as she wears pink armor and has long green curled hair and unrestrained breasts which would not really help her be stealthy (Not to mention her boots make a rather loud squeak), but her extreme speed and kunai-skills compensate for her unorthodox clothing. She enters Dr. Gaudille's trap-filled forest laboratory with the intention of stealing his force metal generator, but finds it in Cinnamon's body. With little choice, Marino decides to just steal Cinnamon when a Rebellion Army member interrupts and nearly kills her. X and his team find her shortly thereafter and with her help retrieve Cinnamon. Marino spends the rest of the conflict fighting alongside X, using her quick-attack and thieving skills to great effect. She develops a sisterly relationship with Cinnamon, and flirts from time to time with Spider. Marino's "Hyper mode" form sheds some of her armor and reveals a little more flesh, but the lighter weight makes her so fast that she can take roughly 6 turns in a row before anyone else can move (She can only keep it up for 3 turns, however...)
  • Nana
An operator for the Resistance, freed from forced labor in a P.O.W. camp by X and his team. She is a quiet sort, ever helpful and hoping for her friends' safe return from their missions. Her duties as an operator differ from those of a navigator; she never gives direct combat or map data, but rather directs teleportation and overall communications in the Resistance. She was greatly saddened by the death of Chief R, probably more so than the others. Her name is a joke on the fact she has two 7s inscribed onto her breast armor; the word nana is Japanese for 7.
  • Spider
A stylish, smooth-talking gambling bounty hunter who helped X in the Giga City conflict. He wears a metal black fedora to hide his face with a purple headguard surrounding the back and sides of his head. He uses cards as weapons, produced from hooked vulcan-like devices on his wrists. Spider's aid proved invaluable in the first half of the conflict, but tensions grew when Zero reappeared and took exception to working with him. Spider gained Zero's trust, however, when he pushed him out of the way of a last surprise shot from Shadow. Though his arm was damaged in the shot, Spider stubbornly pushed on with X and Zero until they found themselves trapped in a room that the Rebellion member Incentas set to self-destruct. Spider gathered his strength and shoved Incentas and himself into the electrified door, blowing a way out for the others in a blinding flash of light. The explosion destroyed Incentas and evidently Spider as well, and the Resistance carried on with his memory.
Spider had evidently been around for some time before the rise of the Rebellion. He said he had once "goofed" when he began his bounty hunting career, a vague mistake that somehow resulted in Aille's disablity. Spider therefore must been a bounty hunter for some time with a particular history in Giga City. It was thus an understandable source of confusion (and romantic frustration to some) among the Mega Man X fandom when Colonel Redips revealed that he and Spider were one and the same.
Recent information has revealed that the real Spider was in the game up until the point before the mission against Incentas, where Redips killed Spider and took his DNA to assume his identity, hence the immense light source noticed by X.
A running joke revolving around Spider is the concept of him using a Duel Disk with his cards. This joke comes from the anime series Yu Gi Oh where people fight summoning monsters with cards. Spider was constantly criticized for his card methods up until the point the game was released, after which he became a favorite of fans, despite the controversy surrounding his identity.
  • Steel Massimo
A large Reploid in green armor, always carrying some form of axe, greathammer, or polearm into battle. The real Steel Massimo was a famous warrior captured by the Rebellion and ripped limb from limb for not joining them; the one calling himself Massimo seems to be a friend or apprentice or even relation who either inherited the real Massimo's armor or wears a copy of it. X and Spider find Massimo near the entrance of a POW camp, and with his help rescue Nana from the prison warden Silverhorn. Deep in the camp, Massimo finds his mentor limbless and hung by energy-bindings in solitary confinement. The old Massimo warns him that such a fate belongs to anyone who refuses to join the Rebellion. Massimo takes that lesson to heart, becoming a progressively stronger and more confident member of the Resistance. Massimo tries to be brave and strong, but deep down, he is a coward towards just about everything, despite his huge size.
  • Steel Massimo (real)
The original Steel Massimo was a large dinosaur type Reploid with unimaginable strength and skill. He had replaced most of his original body with advanced mechanical parts to further augment his strength. Unlike the new Steel Massimo, he was brave and couragous, and would never back off from his duty. However, his courage is what ultimately got him killed by Silverhorn. At some point, Massimo gave his armor to the new Steel Massimo, who rebuilt it into a human-shaped armor. Indications by Capcom's design works show that he used a beam-saber rather than a large axe.

Other characters

  • Rafflesian

A super idol dancer (It is unclear whether she actully is an idol.) with a nasty temper who tries to make a secret dance within a secret room in Tianna Camp that can only be opened with the Tianna Key. She escaped to the Tianna camp along with her backup dancers who are simply known as Belldonnas to practice. When disrupted by X and his group, her temper flared and she wound up attacking them. She isn't evil and is not a member of the rebellion, she is merely ill-tempered, and the Belldonnas are subject to her foul moods. Judging from her ability to recover her hp it is possible she has some supra-force metal, although she will more than likely never appear again in a game to confirm this. It's unknown if X and his group destroyed her as a maverick or if she was spared.

  • Duckbill Moles

A pair of platypus Reploids with fire powers, included a big drill and hammer. They possess a treasure with a secret room in Melda Ore Plant. They both hate the cold. In the room they hide, they possess "Absolute Zero" for Zero. They are not members of the rebellion, but they are quite the evil mavericks.

  • The Ninetails clan

The Ninetails clan are a clan of reploids who discovered the secret to channelling natural energy from within, similar to human monks. They used this technique to project energy rather than relying on internal devices such as X's cannon. Their energy and strength was so intense that they were imprisoned deep beneath Giga City in separate rooms. (How they were justified being there is a mystery.) Each Ninetails looks similar to one another, wearing the same armor except for the amount of tails to match their name, which indicates their strength. Onetails being the baby of the clan to Ninetails being the strongest. They were released when Giga City was destroyed by Colonel Redips, and X and the group were forced to put them down one by one. (They are something of a homage to Street Fighter due to using an attack called Annihilator/Annihilation Hadoken. However since both The Ninetails clan and Magma Dragoon from X4 use Ansatsuken style attacks it leads to the question of whether practitioners of this fighting style exist up to the X series.)

Manga-only characters

  • iX/RX
The Limited Virus created by Dr. Doppler had managed to infest itself inside of X after he had defeated enough infected Limited mavericks. While he was infected, the Virus fed off of X's darker desires and mutated into a second personality, which would take control over X's body from time to time. After realizing the virus was inside of him when he attacked Zero, doctors managed to isolate the virus from X's body and place it into an empty robotic shell to study. However, the virus managed to take control of the body and mutate into a reploid body of its own. The body mutated and Irregular X, or "Ikkusu" was born. iX visually resembled X, except his armor was green and violet with spike-studded wrists, legs and collar. He had yellow streaks going down his red eyes and had an electric-pink streak in his brown hair. His only instinct was to destroy all whom he considered threats to peace, as well as his other half X. X managed to destroy IX eventually. However, Sigma later resurrected IX with a more advanced body. His intellect was greatly enhanced as was his cunning wit. His armor mutated into a more evil-form with clawed hands and fangs, his hair was now fully electric pink. He renamed himself "Return X" or "AruEkkusu." Still hellbent on destroying X, he was determined to find a means of immortality to prolong his existence until his need to destroy was satiated. In the end, Sigma proved to be a bigger threat by destroying X before RX could get to him, which lead to RX choosing to help him rather than kill him. RX melted himself down and remerged with X to form a new armor, which helped to destroy Sigma's new limited form. The power output was too great however, and RX's body was unable to retain its solid form. He melted and has not been heard from since.
It is rumored that RX survived the conflict and has been planned to be introduced into the games at somepoint. This has yet to have happened however, and most people believe it is a hoax.
  • Martei

Martei is a brash, hotheaded blond-haired female reploid who loves money and fighting. She was originally a mermaid reploid and the leader of a First-Aid Team. In the third X1 manga, she wanted to save a sunken city from being destroyed by Launch Octopus, and made a deal with him: lure X to him, and Octopus would not destroy the city. She met with trouble along the way however, and was attacked by a rogue mechaniloid. She destroyed the mechaniloid, and literally crashed into X, who was briefly stunned by her appearance before she pushed him away. For the brief period they were together, X and Martei became somewhat fond of each other, Martei particularly amused by his innability to swim. After she delivered X into Octopus' trap, she went back to save him, only to wind up being skewered by Ocotopus and her body destroyed by his torpedoes detonating inside of her. After X killed Ocotopus in a rage, he managed to save Martei's "soul" within one of her brain chips and preserved it inside a computer.
Somehow, Martei was revived in a new, more voluptuous body with human legs, although she is now able to switch between a mermaid and human body. She has since become the leader of a group of Reploid pirates who steal from Mavericks, such as Bubble Crab. Martei, appearingly doing so for money and treasure (from Bubble Crab whose personality was meant to be greedy), is actually having revenge for what happened to her companions - Reploids in oceans killed from Sigma's plans. This greatly frustrates X, who since X3 has admitted he has feelings for her. Although Martei has admitted that she loves him as well, she continues to deny them to others out of pride, and only gets close to X when she is alone with him. When she was hugging X in the third X3 volume and Zero and Dr. Cain approached them, she immediately shoved him off of her while silently cursing them for ruining the moment.
Martei fights using a falchion and hidden blades in her gauntlets. Although she never wears the same armor twice, every armor she wears resembles a valkyrie design. She used a trident in her fight against Launch Octopus and had a fairy-like armor in her assault against Doppler, although it was destroyed before she could utilize it. She wears no cloth suit, which reveals her skin and a lot of it. This leads many people to believe she has an indecent personality, which couldn't be farther from the truth. (Except when it comes to her behavior towards X.) A constant joke assosciated with her is the fact she never wears pants, just thong-like leather underwear. She has not been seen since X3, where she was pressuring Dr. Cain to find out if X had survived Doppler's fortress.
Martei's name has never been confirmed with a proper spelling, sometimes being translated as Marty, Mary, Merti and so on, although Martei seems to be the name used by most Japanese artists. She has been regarded as Iwamoto's best addition to the X series, and he continues to promote her character in his current projects.
  • Pirates
The group of reploids lead by Martei after she was resurrected. They are a rugged, brutish group often replacing their real limbs with more archaic robotics. Like Martei, they all love money and adventure, although she appears to be the only female among them. Martei's first mate and second in command, although nameless, appears constantly near her ready to take orders. He has an eyepatch over his right eye and a striped bandana over his hair. He cares for Martei like a daughter, although she gives him very little respect in return. He was the first one to recognize her affections for X, and is constantly beaten by her for pushing her to be more open with her emotions while with him. He was nearly killed by Bubble Crab in the 2nd X2 manga, and was last seen picking Martei up outside Doppler's fortress. In X2 manga, they are protrayed as sea pirates, while in X3 manga, the group rides in a large air battleship when counter-striking Doppler Force.
  • Teal
Teal was a brunette female trainee assigned to Zero and Storm Eagle, the three of which became close friends in time. Storm Eagle harbored romantic feelings for her, but never had the chance to tell her. It's unknown what exactly Teal did while she was a hunter, her fighting abilities were never shown. During a maverick attack on a plane in which Teal was on, Zero and Storm Eagle boarded the plane, although they were unable to deactivate the detonator the mavericks had set. Teal grabbed the bomb and meant to throw it out away, but she fell from the plane due to air pressure, she died shortly afterwards from the combined shock and oxygen loss, after which the bomb incinerated her body. Storm Eagle blames Zero for being unable to save Teal, a factor which lead him to ally himself with Sigma. Zero somehow felt regret and could not fully confront Storm Eagle due to what happened to Teal.
