Piano Sonatas

Scriabin wrote 10 sonatas for piano. The first three are in the Romantic style, following Chopin but showing much of Scriabin's originality. With the fourth sonata, Scriabin was exploring more complex, chromatic harmonies. The fifth sonata is partly atonal, and all following sonatas are fully atonal and sometimes highly dissonant. Vers la flamme was intended to be the eleventh sonata, but he was forced to publish it early due to financial concerns. Beginning with the fifth, Scriabin's sonatas consisted of only a single movement.
