Llanvapley has a cricket team, comprising a number of players from the village. The cricket pitch and pavilion are in the heart of the village and are widely appreciated. Abergavenny Cricket club share the pitch and contribute to the upkeep of the square.
St Mabley's church is at present not holding services because of problems with the roof and structural damage. The decision whether or not to repair is a difficult one because of the small and ever decreasing size of the congregation (average 7). Recently, a working group has been formed within the village to see how funding can be raised to effect repairs, and the local Community Council has made an initial contribution to the fund.
Many of the residents of Llanvapley have campaigned for the local pub, the Red Hart Inn, to be retained as a pub, despite its closure by its owners. The campaign achieved success in preventing change of use and it will open in the future when the management decide that the economic circumstances are right.
In the meantime the village are having lots of fun running their own functions on the cricket pitch.
