M24A2

Remington is currently developing an improved version of the M24 rifle. The A2 model features a detachable 10-round magazine, side and top-mounted Picatinny rails (advertised by Remington as "MARS", or Modular Accessory Rail System), barrel modifications designed to accommodate a sound suppressor, and an improved stock with adjustable cheek height and length of pull. As of February 2005, the M24A2 remains in prototype phase.

Popular culture

  • It can also be found in the first-person shooter Battlefield 2, where it is featured as a weapon of the Marines. In reality, however, the rifle is not used by the United States Marine Corps — the branch has, instead, chosen to employ the M40 series sniper rifles (originally made by Remington [40x Match Rifle]) rather than the M24 SWS. The M24 in the game has the least bullet drop in all the sniper rifles.
  • The M24 is Madlax's sniper rifle in the anime MADLAX.
