MIT Musical Theatre Guild

From Free net encyclopedia

The MIT Musical Theatre Guild (MTG) is one of the oldest and most popular theater groups on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus. As their name suggests, they do musical theater. They do four shows a year: Spring, Summer, and Fall, as well as one over IAP, where the production period is shortened to a month. It is primarily a student organization, although it counts many alumni, staff members, and other community members in its ranks.

MTG has its roots in MIT's Tech Show: an annual student-written, student-produced musical production which first premiered in 1899. After a decline in the 1960s, the organization merged with the MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the Classical Musical Society to form the MIT Musical Theatre Guild in 1971.
