Manger

From Free net encyclopedia

A manger is a trough or box of carved stone or wood construction used to hold food for animals (as in a stable). It is often associated with nativity scenes where the baby Jesus used a manger in place of a crib (Luke 2:7). A favorite Christmas carol is "Away in a Manger."

A manger translates in French to "une mangeoire." Manger is the French verb for "to eat." This has, for Christians at least, an obvious theological implication of the Eucharist, in which Jesus offers his flesh and blood to be eaten by the faithful.
