Manuel Urrutia Lleó

From Free net encyclopedia

Manuel Urrutia Lleó (8 December 1901 Yaguajay, Las Villas Province, Cuba - 5 July 1981 New York) was a Cuban political figure. He struggled against the Machado and Batista dictatorships. He served as provisional Cuban president in 1959, but was later removed by Fidel Castro on charges of "acts bordering treason" and replaced with Osvaldo Dorticós Torrado, thought to be more loyal. The real reason for his dismissal was his opposition to the increasingly communist nature of the Castro regime. Urrutia was exiled in 1963.
