Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, known in Japan as Mario Golf: Family Tour (マリオゴルフ ファミリーツアー), is a sports video game developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo released for the Nintendo GameCube on July 28, 2003. It is the sequel to the 1999 Nintendo 64 title Mario Golf.

The game has sold enough copies to earn a Player's Choice rating.

Transferable Characters

Neil and Ella are characters can be imported into the game by establishing a connection with Mario Golf: Advance Tour for the GBA using the GBA-GCN connector cable.

Courses

  • Lakitu Valley – A lush green course surrounded with trees. It is of a basic and conventional nature, and a good course to begin learning to play the game on.
  • Cheep Cheep Falls – A scenic course containing trees, ponds, and rivers. Like Lakitu Valley, it is conventional in nature, though it is a bit more trickey, most notably because of its water hazards.
  • Shifting Sands – A course set in the middle of a desert. Naturally it contains many bunkers. Though fantastic in appearance, it does not contain any unconventional elements. Interestingly, it is divided into two different desert themes: one being similar to the deserts of the North American West or Mexico, the other being similar to the Saharah or other Middle Eastern deserts.
  • Blooper Bay – A course set in a beautiful tropical resort. It is the first course to include unconventional elements (fast fairways). One interesting feature of this course is that its bunkers are usually shaped to resemble certain creatures or objects, such as seagulls or banana bunches.
  • Peach's Castle Grounds – A vivid course with a strong Mushroom Kingdom flavor. With such elements as warp pipes, which balls can travel through to reach other areas of the course, chain chomps, who chase balls that land within their territory, and giant mushrooms which send balls bouncing when they hit them, this course is one of the most fantastic and unconventional. Its environments range from the seaside to islands floating in the sky.
  • Bowser Badlands – A course themed after Bowser's world. It naturally has a dark and ominous atmosphere, with its castle towers, magma flows, and haunting skies, and includes many unconventional elements, such as bob-ombs, which explode when hit with the ball, whomps, which fall and smash the ball into the ground after being hit with the ball, and piranha plants, which swallow the ball and then spit in in a random direction.
  • Congo Canopy – A course located high up in the trees of a jungle. It is made up solely of short (par-three) holes. This course is a special course used in the birdie challenge and the near-pin contest. It does not have a tournament, and initially only the front nine holes are available (the back nine can be unlocked).

Secrets

  • While on the title screen, if a player presses and holds the Z button and then presses start, a contests area will be available for access from the main menu. This area contains a hole in one contest (similar to the near-pin contest), and a password tournament. The latter allows you to enter passwords to participate in special tournaments which provide a password desinganting the player's score after completion that can be submitted to the game's official website for ranking against those of other players. The following tournaments can be unlocked by imputting their respective codes:
    • Target Tour – enter CEUFPXJ1.
    • Hollywood Tour – enter BJGQBULZ.
    • Mario Open Tournament – enter GGAA241H.
    • Camp Hyrule Tournament – enter 0EKW5670. (Only members of Camp Hyrule, a Nintendo internet camp are allowed to submit scores for this tournament)
  • When performing a manual shot, when a player sets the impact, if he presses A and then B quickly after, the character will apply super topspin to his shot. Similarily, if he presses B then A, he will apply super backspin.
  • After performing a shot, if a player presses B before after the shot has landed, a replay of the shot will occur.

Connectivity

Like many Gamecube games created by Nintendo, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour featured interactivity with the Gameboy Advance. Players can transfer characters between Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Mario Golf: Advance Tour.
