Media player

A media player is a piece of application software for playing back multimedia files. Most media players support an array of media formats, including both audio and video files.

There are also some media players can only play audio or video, these are known as audio players and video players respectively. These players, however, may give better user experience as they are specifically tailored toward the media type.

Some common media players include Apple iTunes, Apple QuickTime Player, RealNetworks RealPlayer, Nullsoft Winamp and Microsoft Windows Media Player.
