Meep

From Free net encyclopedia

Meep is an onomatopoetic word whose sound can be meant to be similar to honking a car horn, or squeaky noise similar to a "beep". The meaning of "meep" may be an emotional one denoted by the tone of voice and body language it is used with.

It has been used in several different cartoons. The Road Runner's only verbal statement is 'Meep Meep' (or Beep-beep). The Chocobos of the Final Fantasy series also emit weak "meep" sounds on occasion.

Over the years "meep" has also become an Internet gesture of greeting, surprise, shock, or awe.

In MMORPGs, such as Dark Age of Camelot, 'Meep' is often used to convey sympathy. For example:

Player 1 - "Damnit, I just got ganked by a load of purple mobs"

Player 2 - "Meep"

In the comic book series The Maxx, "Meep" is also the only word available in iszes' vocabulary. The Muppet known as Beaker can likewise only communicate via "Meep" and excited body language.

A fictional species called "Meeps" appear in the computer role-playing game Quest for Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero; these Meeps are friendly subterranean furballs whose bodies are covered in primary-colored fur.

Meep is also a character in a series for Flash cartoons called Panathinaikos Bear, created by David Firth.

Meep was also a little green blob that could transform himself into any character or object in the online comic squidi.net (doesn't exist anymore)

It has been rumored that Wittgenstein's final words were "Meep meep" in that they were the closest to silence he came while communicating his thoughts. Because of this, meep has been promoted to the most meaningful word in the Philosophy of Mind and Language. Therefore, what should we do?

Meep has also recently been adopted by many as a catchphrase to present an outburst or hysteria.

In rare occurances, meep is in reference to an involuntary action that originates from the stomach or abdomen region of the body, and emits a loud, high pitched "meep" sound. It is involuntary, much like the hiccup, yet ususally does not continue once the action has occurred. Also unlike the hiccup, it only occurs in a few individuals i.e. Lisa Rolland. Can be used as a verb, much like hiccup, to refer to someone doing the involuntary action (meeps, meeping, meeped)

Meep is also used to describe lads who are particularly large and sassy. The most notable example of this is Andrew Webb, who is commonly referred to as "Meep Kid." This usage, however, is uncommon, and examples of it are scarce.
