From Free net encyclopedia

Birth name: Ai

Throne name: Mernefere

Merneferre Ai was an Ancient Egyptian ruler of the Thirteenth dynasty of Egypt. He reigned around 1720 BC. Following the Turin King List he ruled for 23 years. He is mainly known from many scarab seals. In the Delta there was found a pyramidion with his name. He is the last Egyptian king of the 13th Dynasty known from objects found in Lower and Upper Egypt, indicating that he still ruled most parts of the country.

This pharaoh is also known as Aya or Eje.

He is sometimes confused with Kheperkheprure Ai, a ruler at the end of the 18th Dynasty.
