Ministry of the Environment (Japan)

The Ministry of the Environment (環境省; Kankyō-shō) of Japan was formed in 2001 from the 1971-established Environmental Agency. The minister is a member of the Cabinet and is chosen by the Prime Minister, usually from the Diet.

As of 2005, the minister is Koike Yuriko. See the list of ministers for former minsters.
