Mitcham Junction station
From Free net encyclopedia
Template:London stations Mitcham Junction is a National Rail station, served by First Capital Connect and Southern trains, and by Tramlink services. It is in the London Borough of Merton.
There is no longer a junction at Mitcham Junction: one of the two lines that crossed there, the West Croydon to Wimbledon line, has become a Tramlink route, and has had to be bridged over the remaining line. The other line is used by services between Sutton and London Victoria or London Bridge. This line still has sharp curves at either end of the station where the junctions were. Speeds are therefore limited to 15 mph. Mitcham Junction is in Travelcard Zone 4.
The typical off-peak service from this station is:
- 2tph to London Blackfriars via Streatham and Herne Hill
- 2tph to Wimbledon via Sutton (on the First Capital Connect route)
- 2tph to London Victoria via Clapham Junction
- 2tph to Epsom via Hackbridge and Sutton
- 6 trams per hour to Wimbledon via Morden Road
- 6 trams per hour to Elmers End via East Croydon
Mitcham Junction is not located in the centre of Mitcham itself but is nearer the historic Cricket Green Conservation Area, across Mitcham Common. The nearest mainline railway station to the commercial centre of Mitcham is Tooting railway station.
