Moderator

Moderator, a Latin word for 'he who moderates, i.e. leads a group' can refer to one of the following:

  1. persons:
    1. Moderator provinciae was the title of certain Roman provincial governors
    2. Moderator is a Scots, and Scottish English, gender-neutral word that approximates chairman or convener.
    3. Moderator is the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting
    4. The chairperson of a church court in Presbyterian churches (see Moderator of the General Assembly, Moderators and clerks in the Church of Scotland and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland).
    5. Forum moderator (one who oversees discussions on an Internet forum)
