Commerce
Moonee Ponds is the commercial centre of the North West; servicing the surrounding suburbs such as Essendon and Ascot Vale. It has several bars, pubs and nightclubs as well as a few high-rise apartments catering for students and single dwellers. Traffic is significant due to public transport depots and the intersection of several roads. Puckle Street is the CBD of Moonee Ponds but Alexander Road is also very busy.
The Moonee Ponds Market used to be a fixture of the suburb where families would shop for carpets, homeware, groceries and fish but the market never quite recovered from the recession of 1991/92 and was closed at the end of the decade.
