Formation

Sometime in the mid-'90s, the Godfrey brothers (DJ Paul Godfrey and multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey) recruited Skye Edwards to sing for their new band Morcheeba. Five albums later (2003), Skye was asked to leave the band as the brothers wanted to go in a different musical direction. By 2005, the brothers Godfrey were ready to record another album, so they recruited Daisy Martey (formerly of the band Noonday Underground) to replace Skye on vocals. Unfortunately, Skye's voice had become an integral part of Morcheeba's sound, and the new lead singer faced criticism from both fans and music critics. Perhaps because of this, the Godfrey brothers have replaced Daisy with yet another singer - Jody Sternberg - for their live performances. Fans now speculate that Daisy has been dropped completely as lead singer, and believe that the band will follow the direction of Zero 7, another electronica group that relies on a rotating and ostensibly more flexible assortment of vocalists.
