Morgan Morgan

Colonel Morgan Morgan, (born in Wales in 1688, died at Bunker Hill in 1766) founded the first permanent white settlement on Mill Creek in Berkeley County in what is now West Virginia sometime between 1726 and 1731.

He was also a clergyman in the Anglican faith and is credited with building the first church in West Virginia.

He had eight children with his wife Catherine Garretson. One son, Zackquill Morgan, later founded Morgantown, West Virginia.

He is buried at Bunker Hill.

Francis Harrison Pierpont, governor of Virginia and later West Virginia, was a descendant of Morgan Morgan. Morgan Morgan's father, Charles Morgan, was a descendant of Roman Emperor Constantine who legalized Christianity. Morgan is also descended from William the Conqueror.
