Motorhead is a video game published in 1998 by Gremlin Interactive (Europa) and Fox Interactive (USA). It was developed by Digital Illusions CE and was available for PC and Playstation. It is a dark and moody arcade racing game, set in futuristic urban environments. The sports cars players get to control are reminiscint of modern day vehicles and handle more realisticly than most other arcade racers of the time. What distinguished this game was the engine's ability to produce stunning visuals (at the time) without the need for hardware accelerator cards. The lack of commentator audio was also applauded by game critics as it helped promote a moody racing experience. DICE developed the engine from scratch and it was also used in S40 Racing. Motorhead was nominated for the BAFTA Programming award in October 1998. It has so far sold more than one million copies. A sequel for the Playstation 2 was announced by Digital Illusions in December 2000, only to be quietly cancelled less than two years later.
