Nehalem is a city located in Tillamook County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 203.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 203 people, 84 households, and 58 families residing in the city. The population density was 326.6/km² (860.6/mi²). There were 121 housing units at an average density of 194.7/km² (513.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.03% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.97% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 84 households out of which 25.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 107.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $40,250, and the median income for a family was $47,679. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $27,813 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,408. 7.7% of the population and 9.0% of families were below the poverty line. 5.5% of those under the age of 18 and 3.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Appearance

The heart of the city runs one long block along highway 101 with the Nehamlem River running along the side. All buildings are a bit raised up to avoid the oft swelled or flooded waters of the Nehalem River. There is one traffic signal in Nehalem - the traffic pattern it encourages is often a mystery to tourists.
