No Idea Records
From Free net encyclopedia
No Idea Records is an independent record label with its office in Gainesville, Florida, producing both vinyl records and compact discs.
Artists who have recorded on the No Idea label include Radon, Cleveland Bound Death Sentence, I Hate Myself, Hot Water Music, The Holy Mountain, Small Brown Bike, Against Me!, the Grabass Charlestons, Less Than Jake, and Combatwoundedveteran.
No Idea started out not as a record label, but as a zine, published independently by a guy named Var. By the time the sixth issue came out, Var decided to start including 7 inch records with the zine. The first one featured a band called Doldrums, and the second was a split 7", one side of which belonged to now Bay Area legends, Crimpshrine, one of the early bands of Aaron Cometbus. Since its humble beginings, No Idea has remained a bastion of DIY ethics and independence. They put out some of the most consistently strong punk rock albums in the country and the world and are the foundation of the Gainesville punk scene, renowned worldwide, and even considered by many to have spawned its very own style of punk rock. They continue to this day to innovate and improve the punk scene, with not only their records, but with their annual festival, The Fest, which last fall celebrated its fourth year.
