The small pelagic snails of the family Notobranchaeidae (Pelseneer, 1886) lack a shell (except in early embryonic stage).They are carnivores, equipped with swimming parapoda (fleshy winglike flaps), strong jaws and grasping tentacles, often with suckers resembling those of cephalopods.
