The Prisoner

Number Two was the apparent second-in-command in the Village in the British television show The Prisoner. Most episodes featured a newly-installed Number Two, who would introduce him- or herself as "the new Number Two." The best-known was Leo McKern (three episodes as Two). While he was not the only actor to play Two more than once (Colin Gordon played Number Two twice), he was arguably the only actor to play the "same" Two more than once (the Two of episode 16 returns in episode 17). All the people who became Number Two were establishment figures (who had done governmental work previously?) and who were there to get information out of the Villagers, most notably Number Six. They said they would get information out of him "by hook or by crook".

Thunderball

In the James Bond film Thunderball, 'Number Two' refers to Emilio Largo and his rank in S.P.E.C.T.R.E.. In the novel, Thunderball, 'Number Two refers to Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of S.P.E.C.T.R.E., although he is referred to as 'Number Two' for security reasons rather than rank.

Austin Powers Films

In the Austin Powers films, Number Two is Dr. Evil's second-in-command (who is actually keener to make money legitimately than engage in Dr. Evil's megalomaniac schemes). He is played by Robert Wagner; his younger self was played by Rob Lowe in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Number Two is a parody of Emilio Largo from the James Bond film, Thunderball.

Douglas Adams' books

Number Two is a minor character in Douglas Adams' The Restaurant at the End of the Universe: the enthusiastically dramatic third-in-command on the Golgafrincham B-Ark. He is capable of "shouting through clenched teeth" and enjoys questioning prisoners.

The Railway Series

Smudger (Known as 'Stanley' in The Railway Series) is known by some as "Number Two". This is because the other unknown 'Number Two' was scrapped.
