Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) is an industrial consortium dedicated to advancement of the Linux operating system. Founded in 2000, OSDL has investment backers that include:

It is additionally supported by a large collection of independent software vendors, end-user companies and educational institutions.

The OSDL is a not-for-profit corporation. Its goals include "to be the recognized center-of-gravity for the Linux industry" and to serve as "a central body dedicated to accelerating the use of Linux for enterprise computing." A steering committee comprised of investment backers directs OSDL, which also has a significant staff of its own.

OSDL sponsors key industry projects, including industry initiatives to enhance Linux for use in corporate data centers, in telecommunications networks, and on the desktop. It also:

  • provides hardware resources to the open source community
  • tests and reports on open source software
  • employs a number of kernel developers.

It has data centers in Beaverton, Oregon, United States and Yokohama, Japan. Its employees include Linus Torvalds, Andrew Morton, Andrew Tridgell, and Bryce Harrington.
