- Out has many dictionary definitions, such as away from inside or away from the middle. It is the opposite of in.
- People are said to be out after having revealed that they are gay (homosexual). More accurately, these people are in the process of coming out of the closet. The phrase is also used for the revelation of other secrets.
- Out is a gay-interest fashion magazine.
- In jazz music, out is a term (common in the early sixties, now rarely used) more or less synonymous with "the new thing", referring to both free jazz and avant-garde jazz. (See Eric Dolphy).
- Out can also mean in or entering a state of unconsciousness.
- In baseball, an out is recorded on a play which retires the batter or a base runner.
- In poker, an out is an unseen card which is expected to win a hand, if drawn.
- Out is the title of a 1997 novel by Japanese novelist, Natsuo Kirino.
- Out is a community website for gay men and women around the world.
