Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (1993) is a novel by Irish writer Roddy Doyle and perhaps the most well-known book of the author. It won the Booker Prize (1993).
Written from the perspective of a 10-year-old boy in Ireland, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha has similarities with J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, in that both concern a young man's struggle with adolescence and the world around him and that both use the device of beginning the story with its end. The book contains a wonderful use of Irish slang and a host of interesting characters. One that is most intriguing is Francis "Sinbad" Clarke, Paddy's brother. After being bullied by Paddy and his friends he just ignores them and doesn't speak to Paddy any more. When Paddy wants to reconcile, it's too late. The book offers a good insight into Irish public schools in the 60s. Doyle also highlights the issue of peer pressure as the book is based around young people.Template:Novel-stub
