Painkiller Magazine

From Free net encyclopedia

Painkiller Magazine (Template:Zh-cpl) is China's first heavy music magazine and a legally registered enterprise for print media productions by Chinese State Authority.

Based in Beijing, it was founded in September 2000 and published a new issue every four months; the frequency was later raised to one issue every two months.

Their average circulation is 20,000 - 40,000 copies to be sold in all of mainland China (Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an...), as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The magazine's language is Chinese, but they have English- and German-speaking employees for interviews and article research.

The content focuses on articles and interviews with foreign metal bands from the genres: heavy metal, power metal, progressive metal, nu metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, grindcore and brutal death. In addition to this offers every issue a 'metal in China' section and a CD introducing new bands.

Further activities include the support of the local metal underground, the organization of concerts, CD distribution throughout China, and certain internet activities. They have an official webpage as well as a special section to promote and introduce the local Chinese heavy metal scene, in which several city scenes are presented, bands are introduced and Chinese heavy metal is explained as a part of Chinese new history, including its function as a 'rebellion of denial' due to the new sound movement.

Their present issue (#11) features a Labyrinths concert in Beijing that took place on May 15, 2004.
