Parnashala

From Free net encyclopedia

Parnashala is a village in India 35 miles (55 km) removed from Bhadrachalam, a major Hindu pilgrimage center. In a hut at Parnashala, called Parnasala, is the location where, in Hindu mythology, Lord Sri Rama spent his 14 years in exile. According to legend, his consort, Sita, bathed in a nearby stream here and dried her clothes on a rock called the "Radhagutta" until Ravana – literally, "the demon king" – abducted her in his Pushpaka. Legend points to an earthen ditch at Parnashala that was created when Ravana removed earth to carry off Sita to Lanka.

Another Hindu myth names Parnashala as the location where Rama killed Mareecha, who came in disguise of a golden deer to deceive Sita.
