It is considered by some to be the company's second equivalent of New Coke, after the much maligned Crystal Pepsi.
The taste of Pepsi Blue is fruity and much more sugary than regular Cola. 'Fruity' as in the sense of artificial fruit, such as lollipops and popsicles; for artificial fruit flavoring seldom tastes like actual fruit.
Although heavily promoted by PepsiCo (including advertisements by the pop singer Britney Spears and the bands Papa Roach and Sev), it is widely seen as a commercial flop as sales remained low.
Even though Pepsi Blue wasn't as popular as PepsiCo thought it would be, supermarket store-brand clones remain on the market for those who enjoy the taste. Pepsi Blue still remains on sale in some countries, including Mexico and Costa Rica. It was withdrawn from the American market in early 2004.
Pepsi Blue was later reintroduced into the Hong Kong Market. Its availability was shortlived in Australia, due to it's commercial failure there.
