Pierre Turgeon (b. August 28, 1969 in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian professional hockey player who plays for the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche. He was drafted First Overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He is the younger brother of former NHL player Sylvain Turgeon. Standing 6'1" and weighing 200 pounds, Turgeon continues to excel as a center with 28 points in the 2005 season as of December 17. Turgeon has also played for the New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, and Dallas Stars.
As an Islander, Turgeon was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in the 1992-93 NHL season. That same season, in the final game of a first round playoff series vs. the Washington Capitals, Turgeon was viciously hit from his blind spot by Dale Hunter after scoring a goal that put the Islanders ahead for good. Hunter was suspended for a then-record 21 games as a result of the incident, and Turgeon missed the entire second round. Turgeon has never played in a Stanley Cup Final.
On November 8, 2005, Turgeon became the 34th player in NHL history to score 500 goals.
