Player's Ball

From Free net encyclopedia

"Player's Ball" is a song by the hip hop group Outkast. It was the group's first single and was released on their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. It discusses the nature of living in the south and growing up in a hip hop culture. Released in 1993, it was their first single; also refers to the annual meetings/ celebrations that are organized by pimps and that are characterized by mysogynistic and demeaning, degrading portrayls and treatment of women.

The term also refers to the Player's Ball, Chicago's annual gathering of pimps. The party has been a November tradition since 1974, when pimps from across the country first gathered to celebrate the birthday of pimp Don Juan (now known as Bishop Don Magic Juan) [1]. The Pimp of the Year is announced at the Ball.

The Player's Ball was depicted in the 1999 Hughes Brother's documentary, American Pimp. In imitation of Don Juan's notorious party, other pimp-sponsored Player's Balls take place across the country, most notably in Miami and Atlanta.

A well-known non-pimp Player's Ball started some years ago in Las Vegas, as a private party for businesses attending the Adult Internet Expo. The event is organized by D-Money. Past events have featured performers including Snoop Dogg, Digital Underground, Ice-T, LL Cool J and porn star Ron Jeremy as the MC. [2]
