Pollok

From Free net encyclopedia

Pollok is a predominantly working class district on the southside of the city of Glasgow, Scotland.

The main features of the area are the nearby park, Pollok Country Park and the adjacent Crookston Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was once held.

The area is currently represented on the City of Glasgow council by one of the two Scottish Socialist Party councillors that have been elected across the whole of Scotland.

Pollok's children are served by St Paul's High School which recently gained national coverage for its rise up the league tables. This was attributed to the highly controversial streaming of pupils, introduced by Headteacher Rod O'Donnell.St Pauls High School is recognised as one of the schools of ambition in Scotland.
