The word propagation can mean:

Multiplication or increase, as by natural reproduction. In artificial reproduction see propagation of schema.
Copying and distributing free software in a manner explicitly permitted under the applicable license
In genetics, propagation is another term for the elongation part of transcription.

Note: For electromagnetic waves, propagation may occur in a vacuum as well as in a material transmission medium.
