Prospero (pros'-pər-oe, IPA Template:IPA) is a relatively small natural satellite of the planet Uranus named after the sorcerer in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. It was discovered on 1999-07-18 by the astrophysicist Matthew Holman and his team, and given the temporary designation S/1999 U 3. It is also designated Uranus XVIII.
As of 2005, little is known about this irregular satellite.
Because of its small size, recent discovery, and the nature of its orbit, there is much conflicting information on Prospero.
