Provinces of Vanuatu

Vanuatu has been divided into six provinces since 1994. The names of all provinces are derived from the initial letters of their constituent islands:
- Malampa (Malakula, Ambrym, Paama)
- Penama (Pentecost, Ambae, Maewo)
- Sanma (Santo, Malo)
- Shefa (Shepherds group, Efate)
- Tafea (Tanna, Aniwa, Futuna, Erromango, Aneityum)
- Torba (Torres islands, Banks islands)
From 1985 to 1994 it was divided into eleven island regions:
- Ambae and Maéwo (capital Longana)
- Ambrym (capital Eas)
- Banks and Torres (capital Sola)
- Éfaté (capital Port Vila)
- Épi (capital Ringdove)
- Malekula (capital Lakatoro)
- Paama (capital Liro)
- Pentecost (capital Loltong)
- Santo and Malo (capital Luganville)
- Shepherd (capital Morua)
- Taféa (capital Isangel)
During the Condominium era the group was divided into four administrative districts:
- Southern District
- Central District 1
- Central District 2
- Northern District
