It is one of the most popular of the optional expansion books written for the game. The Psionics Handbook is intended for use with the Dungeons and Dragons core rulebooks.
Several editions of the book have been released, each corresponding to a different edition of the game. Currently, version 3.5 is in use. The "Expanded Psionics Handbook" is based on the original Psionics Handbook, however it introduces two more new Base Classes, and alters rules for Psionic Powers, removing the previous power-chain system, and uses a system similar to arcane and divine magic in D&D, save for the introduction of 'Power Points"; instead of spell slots. Base classes in this book include the psion and psychic warrior, the wilder, and the soulknife. There are also several prestige classes. They are the Cerebremancer, Elocater, Fist of Zuoken, Illithid Slayer, Metamind, Psion Uncarnate, Pyrokineticist, Thrallherd, and the Warmind.
