Pumping can mean:

The process of moving a liquid from one location to another, using a pump
In lasers and optical parametric amplifiers, optical pumping provides the energy source that sustains the oscillation.
In lactation, the action of extracting milk from mammalian mammary glands by mechanical means. A milking machine provides this function at commercial dairies, while a breast pump does the same for humans.
