History of Greek Left oriented politics
In Greece in the 1940s after the German occupation there began a civil war with the communist army fighting the Greek right governments but the Greek right won. Many Greek lefts emigrated to Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Albania, and other socialist communist countries.
Some Greek regions are traditionally very radically communist, like Pireas, Nikaia, Koridalos, Renti, Nea Ionia, and nearby regions. Also some of the Greek islands have significant leftist populations, Crete and Ikaria for example. The Greek mountain regions where land owners live are usually right-wingers.
