Rakhmon Nabiyev
From Free net encyclopedia
Rahmon Nabiyev (Раҳмон Набиев; born 1930 – died 1993) was the second president of Tajikistan and the instigator of the country's civil war. After the opposition came out victorious in the country's 1991 legislative elections, Nabiyev and his Communist allies took it upon themselves to make sure the fairly elected government did not take office. Eventually, political riots forced Nabiyev to resign from the presidency at gunpoint. The instability that followed led to a protracted conflict and eventually to the installation of Emomali Rahmonov as the country's leader.
