Image:RedWingView.jpg Red Wing is a city located in Goodhue County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 16,116. It is the county seat of Goodhue County6. Red Wing is famous as the home of Red Wing Shoes, and also for its Red Wing Pottery. The Cannon Valley Trail has its eastern terminus in Red Wing.

Geography
Image:MNMap-doton-Red Wing.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 107.1 km² (41.4 mi²). 91.7 km² (35.4 mi²) of it is land and 15.5 km² (6.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.43% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 16,116 people, 6,562 households, and 4,166 families residing in the city. The population density was 175.8/km² (455.3/mi²). There were 6,867 housing units at an average density of 74.9/km² (194.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.33% White, 1.32% African American, 2.22% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.27% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 6,562 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $43,674, and the median income for a family was $54,641. Males had a median income of $36,576 versus $25,477 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,678. 6.8% of the population and 3.9% of families were below the poverty line. 7.9% of those under the age of 18 and 8.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
