Robin Harper

Robin Harper is a Scottish politician, Member of the Scottish Parliament, representing the Scottish Green Party for the Lothians. He is co-convener of the Scottish Green Party and speaks for the party on education and young people.

Born on August 4, 1940 in Thurso, Caithness, he was the first ever elected Green parliamentarian in the United Kingdom when he was elected at the first election to the Scottish Parliament and served as his party's sole representative in the first Parliament (1999-2003) until he was joined by six Green colleagues at the 2003 election. He was elected as rector of the University of Aberdeen in 2005, having previously served as rector of Edinburgh University.

He serves on the Parliament's Audit Committee. Before his election, he was a modern studies teacher at Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh, and an English teacher in Kenya.

Robin Harper is also a patron of many organisations including LGBT Youth Scotland - An organisation dedicated to the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people in the life of Scotland. He is married.
