Roy (Fire Emblem)
From Free net encyclopedia
Image:Royfire.jpgRoy is a fictional swordfighter from the Fire Emblem series of video games. His only appearances in the games are in Fire Emblem 6: The Sword of Seals and a brief cameo in 'Fire Emblem 7: The Blazing Sword'. His father is Eliwood, who is the hero of Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Sword, the first Fire Emblem game to be released outside Japan as the Game Boy Advance game Fire Emblem in the US. His deceased mother is never fully mentioned, but depending on Eliwood's supports in Rekka no Ken, she could be either Ninian (the half-dragon dancer and Eliwood's first love (considered canon by most Fire Emblem fans)), Lyndis aka Lyn (the half-Sacaen princess of the Caelin territory), and Fiora (the eldest of the Pegasus Knight sisters from Ilia). Roy begins as a "Lord" class and, near the end of Fire Emblem 6: The Sword of Seals, he sets out to defend his country against the invading country of Bern, obeying the will of Princess Guinivere. Roy is also the only character that can wield the Sword of Seals.
Roy also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where he is one of four swordfighters in the game, along with Link, Young Link and fellow Fire Emblem veteran Marth. In order to unlock Roy in the game, one must complete a story mode with Marth, after which Roy will appear in order to challenge the player. Alternatively, Roy can be unlocked by playing 900 "vs." matches to completion. All other characters will be unlocked at increments of 100 matches. This is presumably to allow a player to unlock characters while never playing the game solo, though "vs." matches can be played solo against an AI-controlled character. He is a "clone" of Marth, in that the appearance of his moves are based on Marth's. There is some contention as to the relative attributes of Marth and Roy: although Roy initially appears stronger and slower than Marth, at the tournament level Roy instead becomes a very quick, weak fighter, in direct contrast with Marth's relaxed, precise, spacing-focused style. While Roy is a slower fighter than Marth, his attacks have fire, because he has the Fire Emblem. His most powerful move is his charge blade, which will make a giant explosion and send his opponent flying, at the cost of a lot of time and 10%. Roy attacks are generally stronger in the middle of the blade and weaker in the tip. In terms of damage comparisons, the tip of Roy's blade is weaker than the center of Marth's blade, the center of Marth's blade is weaker than the center of Roy's blade and the tip of Marth's blade is the strongest. Roy has slower and weaker attacks than Marth, disincluding forward B (Double-Edge Dance) which has the same speed but different damage values when compared to Marth's Dancing Blade. Roy is voiced by Jun Fukuyama in the game.
The Super Smash Bros. Melee Official Guide from Nintendo Power classifies Roy as a Type 1 Up Close Specialist character. Template:Fire EmblemTemplate:Nintendo-stub Template:Cvg-char-stub
