SID often appears as a computing / consumer electronics three-letter acronym:
- MOS Technology SID, the Sound Interface Device used in the Commodore 64 home computer and its variants
- “Security Identifier”
- Microsoft Windows: identifies a security principal or security group [1]
- SELinux: an opaque reference to a security context
- Source Identification Code, as used on CD-ROMs

- Oracle database users may refer to a SID in at least two different contexts:

- System Identification Number Identifies an Analog, TDMA or CDMA system
- Silence Insertion Descriptor, used in speech encoding, allows transmission of silence at a compressed rate
