Administration
Sallaumines is located in the Pas-de-Calais département. It belongs to the communauté d'agglomération of Lens-Liévin (Communaupole) which gathers 36 communes, with a total population of 250,000 inhabitants.

History
The history of the area remains marked by the mining disaster which caused 1099 deaths on March 10 1906 on the territories of Billy-Montigny, Méricourt and Sallaumines.

Geography
Its nearby communes are Méricourt to the southeast, Avion to the southwest, Lens to the west, Loison-sous-Sens to the north, Harnes to the northeast and Montigny-en-Gohelle to the east.

Transportation
It is linked by the A21 to its west and northeast. It is passed by route N43.
