This article is about the term "savant". For the author see Marilyn vos Savant, or for the comic book characters see DC Comic's Savant or Wildstorm's Savant.

A savant (suh-VAHNT) is a learned person, well versed in literature or science, often with an exceptional skill in a specialized field of learning. The term is also commonly used as an abbreviation of autistic savant, formerly 'idiot savant'. The word itself is actually a loanword from the French language.

One common theory is that savant may use more of their brain than normal people or that a savant uses portions of their brains in different ways than others. It has been reported that some people develop savant skills after some sort of injury.

There are several variations of savant. Polyglot, savage and natural, and each has different specialities and characteristics.
