Scio is a village located in Harrison County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 799.
Geography
Scio is located at 40°23'47" North, 81°5'15" West (40.396478, -81.087484)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 799 people, 358 households, and 220 families residing in the village. The population density was 560.9/km² (1,446.9/mi²). There were 400 housing units at an average density of 280.8/km² (724.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.62% White, 0.13% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 358 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% were married couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% were non-families. 36.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $23,214, and the median income for a family was $30,278. Males had a median income of $26,333 versus $17,625 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,037. 13.9% of the population and 13.9% of families were below the poverty line. 17.8% of those under the age of 18 and 7.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
