Seismogram

From Free net encyclopedia

A seismogram is a graph output by a seismograph. It measures the seismic movement of the ground at a measuring station.

Because P waves travel through the earth the fastest, they arrive at a seismogram first, then S waves, and, finally, surface waves. Image:Usgs quake seis.png

See http://www.thetech.org/exhibits/online/quakes/grams/ for an example seismogram.

Seismograms from recorded around the world from recent earthquakes (weeks old) as well as larger earthquakes from the past are viewable with REV, the Rapid Earthquake Viewer.
