A session is a gathering for a specific time period, usually recurring, but not necessarily regularly. A court or other assembly is said to be in session when it convenes.
Session can also have any of the following specific meanings:
- Session (computer science), in networking, a lasting connection using the session layer of a network protocol
- Session Description Protocol, a format for describing streaming media initialization parameters
- Session (CD), on CDs consist of lead-in, table of contents, and lead-out
- Session musician, musicians available for hire
- Irish traditional music session, informal gatherings at which people play Irish traditional music
- jam session, musical act where musicians gather and play
- Legislative session, judicial session, or executive session, portions of the United States Senate's daily session in which it considers that particular area
- Court of Session, the supreme civil court of Scotland
- "Kirk session", a term in Scotland used to describe the elected governing body of a congregation within the Presbyterian churches
